Nebosh IGC is a Level 3 UK course in Occupational Health and Safety. Nebosh IGC course is an entry level course which is helpful to understand the basics of occupational health and safety management. Since Nebosh IGC is a UK course, it has international recognition is various countries such as UAE, Saudi, United Kingdom, Oman, Muscat, Qatar, Singapore, Malaysia and India.
Nebosh IGC course has 2 units.
The theory unit is based on occupational health and safety management. IG2 is a practical unit based on risk assessment of occupational health and safety in the workplace. Students have to pass both the units to get the Nebosh IGC qualification certificate.

It provides guidance on the main duties for health and safety of different groups of people at work and how contractors should be selected, monitored and managed. It provides an overview of the elements of a health and safety management system and the benefits of having a formal/certified system.

IG1 Pattern
It broadly covers the main ingredients of health and safety management systems that make it effective – policy, responsibilities, and arrangements. IG1 units describes the concept of health and safety culture and how it influences performance. It also covers the human factors which positively or negatively influence behaviour at work in a way that can affect health and safety.
Nebosh IG1 unit highlights the factors to consider when developing and implementing a safe system of work for general activities and the role, function and operation of a permit-to work system. Typical emergency procedures (including training and testing) and how to decide what level of first aid is needed in the workplace is also covered in Nebosh IG1 unit.
Nebosh IG1 unit covers why and how incidents should be investigated, recorded and reported. It also explains the common methods and indicators used to monitor the effectiveness of management systems. The significance of an audit and how it is used to evaluate a management system and explains the need for regular reviews of health and safety performance.
Nebosh IG2 unit covers the principles of the risk assessment process and risk assessment of a workplace which considers a wide range of identified hazards. Candidates will be able to perform a general risk assessment in their own workplace – profiling and prioritising risks, inspecting the workplace, recognising a range of common hazards, evaluating risks (taking account of current controls), recommending further control measures, planning actions
To Summarise, IG2 practical has the below learning objectives.
The passing score of the Nebosh IGC qualification is a minimum score of 45 in the Nebosh IG1 open book exam and a pass in the Nebosh IG2 practical assessment. The Nebosh IGC qualification certificate will be awarded to those candidates who pass both the units Nebosh IG1 and Nebosh IG2.
Nebosh IGC is eligible for several membership categories in various professional bodies.
After achieving the qualification by passing the two units Nebosh IG1 and Nebosh IG2, candidates are eligible for below categories.
Open Book
Since the open book exam permits the use of references, it doesn’t imply that the students can simply copy paste the answers found in the internet. Students are required to frame the answers based on their own understanding in easy to understand English. The references which the student look upon in the internet are guidance to prepare the answers by themselves. If a student is found to have copy pasted the answers as available in the internet then they will be marked as plagiarism and Nebosh will impose sanctions on the student and this will affect the student future.
